Sparkles of Spring

sparkles of spring, z place gallery, aaron kloss art, pointillism
"Sparkles of Spring"  20"w x 16"h
On a cloudy, gray day, it's great to pull up a painting that's full of color and life to lift the spirits. This piece is titled Sparkles of Spring and is 20"w x 16"h. A bright gold sun is centered in the composition, not afraid to spread it's sparkling light across the distant foliage, lake, foreground birch leaves and stones. The landscape is starting to take shape now, leafing out fully and filling the land with green and life. This painting is available at Z Place Gallery in Ironwood Michigan. Happy Friday!

Cardinals on Gold

Cardinals on Gold, Aaron Kloss Painting, Sivertson Gallery, Pointillism
"Cardinals on Gold"  4"w x 12"h
Here is a bright cheery new piece titled Cardinals on Gold. This painting is 4"w x 12"h and features eight little cardinals against a gold sky. The cardinals could care less about the sky however, they are too busy talking about whatever it is that cardinals talk about. Could be the weather, could be how awesome it is up in Grand Marais, could be where to eat lunch ... or it could be how awesome the sky is. :) Please contact Sivertson Gallery in Grand Marais, MN for more information on this piece.

Autumn Treeline and Z Place Gallery

Autumn Treeline, Ironwood MI, Aaron Kloss, Landscape Paintings, Birch, Maple
"Autumn Treeline"  24"w x 12"h
On a cold windy Monday, I'm posting a warm painting to try and brighten my spirits. This piece, titled Autumn Treeline, is 24"w x 12"h and available at Z Place Gallery in Ironwood MI. It's fun to expand to galleries outside my little part of the world here in Duluth, MN .. and Ironwood is a great place to have art. The town is 15 miles south of Superior, and is known as the gateway to Michigan. This town also has a thriving art community and boasts outdoor recreation opportunities year round. I hope to get there soon myself, but 14 new paintings are now available at Z Place Gallery, along with half a dozen or so works from previous groups of work. Please visit my website to view the new work, and if you're in the area, please stop in the gallery. Now, if only this warm autumn painting would warm up the temps in Duluth! Will have to wait 'til next week for sunny skies. 'Til then, it's back to the easel as I continue to stock my galleries in anticipation of another great year. All my best, Aaron

Autumn Cardinal 2015 at Red Mug Small Works Show

Autumn Cardinal, Birch Tree, Acrylic Landscape Painting, Aaron Kloss, Pointillism
"Autumn Cardinal 2015"  6"w x 6"h
My work at the Small Works Show at Red Mug Coffeehouse in Superior features cardinals, and within that series, there are four paintings that are similar in look and feel with the cardinal backlit by the sun or moon. This piece, titled Autumn Cardinal 2015, has the moon behind the cardinal, with the golden birch leaves and bright red bird to complement the ultramarine background. I'll be exploring this composition more in the future. Working in a series constrains but also forces growth, change, creativity, and a desire to reflect on your work as an artist. What makes you do what you do? Revisiting a painting or working in a series is a natural way to work on answering that question. I feel as though I'll be answering that question for as long as I'm a working artist ... and hopefully people enjoy the artwork that is part of that journey I'm on. This piece can be found at Red Mug Coffeehouse in Superior, WI ... should you choose to make the journey to view the Small Works Show this month of May 2015.

Three 'Dees in the Trees

Chickadee painting, Aaron Kloss, Sivertson Gallery, Minnesota, Pointilism
"Three 'Dees in the Trees"
On a bright sunny Monday morning, I thought I'd post a painting titled Three 'Dees in the Trees which is currently available at Sivertson Gallery in Grand Marais, MN. This piece is full of vibrant spring colors which reflect subtly on the chickadee feathers. Or should I say chickadee - dee - dee feathers??  Please contact Sivertson Gallery for more information on this and similar artwork.

Sunny 'Dee

Chickadee, Aaron Kloss, Acrylic landscape, bird painting, spring, Minnesota, Pointillism
"Sunny 'Dee"  6"w x 6"h
I couldn't help but think of this painting, titled Sunny 'Dee, today as I was hiking with my family along Knife River north of Duluth. We hiked for a few hours along the river which had some interesting turns and rapids, and had lunch. Along the way, we played in the river a bit, discovered an ancient copper mine from 1863, and had a great time in the woods amongst the pines and birches. The weather was perfect, 75 and sunny, and bright sunshine filtered through the trees as we hiked, just like the golds in the sky of this painting featuring a chickadee on a birch. He's basking in the glow of the sun, and so did I today ... a day I wish would last just a bit longer. Please contact Lizzards Gallery in Duluth for more information on this piece.

Nesting Instinct

Chickadee, Nest, Birch, Aaron Kloss, Acrylic Landscape, Minnesota, Dailypaintworks
"Nesting Instinct"
As I was watching a robin build her nest this morning, in the same place as last year, I thought about different birds and the variation of nests they build. How do they know what to build, where to build it, what to do with it ... how to guard it? Instinct is an interesting word ... I think someone thought up the word 'instinct' to answer all of these questions. Only the good Lord knows how these creatures do what they do, but I sure enjoy observing them. That's why they make their way onto my canvases. Today's painting features a rich background of blues, teals and golds .. and of course, a chickadee. How did I decide what to paint again? Was it instinct? ;) This painting is available at DailyPaintworks.
