Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore orioles painting by artist aaron kloss, painting of birds, birch tree painting, pointillism
"Baltimore Orioles"  24"w x 12"h
Wow, it's been a busy spring and I've realized I haven't been posting as much as I'd like to! This piece is titled 'Baltimore Orioles' and is 24"w x 12"h, recently brought in to Lizzards Gallery in Duluth, MN. Bright orange birds on crisp white birch with a rich windsor blue sky to complement the orange orioles really make this piece pop.

Baltimore Oriole

Baltimore oriole painting acrylic on canvas by artist aaron kloss at siiviis gallery in duluth
"Baltimore Oriole"  8"w x 8"h
Ahhhhhhh the colors of fall. That's what this little fella is thinking. Who doesn't just love the warm colors of the leaves and the bright blue skies? Not to mention the cool temps, no bugs, ripe apples, crackling fires ... don't get me started. :) Today's painting is titled Baltimore Oriole and is a new acrylic on canvas, 8"w x 8"h. This little fella thinks he's hiding in the orange maple leaves, but he can't fool us. When I see a baltimore oriole, it's always a treat, and I stop to watch them. They're a quiet, colorful bird with striking features. And he's available at Siiviis Gallery in Duluth today, please contact the gallery for more information. Ahhhhhh fall .....

Baltimore Oriole Sky

This piece, titled Baltimore Oriole Sky, features the oriole which is quickly becoming a favorite bird of mine, perched on a birch and pondering the moon in the sky. The moon is orange, and so is the dappled light radiating from the moon. The bird, I suppose, is trying to figure out why the moon is orange. This was a fun study in light and shadow, and increasing levels of opacity in the paint. I often stop and listen to the birds singing, and perhaps this moon is too, and smiling at this  happy little bird.

This painting is part of a small collection of paintings and framed prints collectively called "Lights" that can be viewed at Bixby's Cafe in Duluth at 1608 Woodland Ave now through the end of April, 2014. The works from the show can also be viewed online on my personal website here.

Baltimore Oriole No. 1

"Baltimore Oriole No. 1" 4"w x 4"h
I just love birds. While I find myself identifying with cardinals and capturing them on canvas, I frequently paint other birds I find around my home in northern Minnesota. So far I'm painted male and female cardinals, blue jays, robins, goldfinches, red wing blackbirds, chickadees ... to name a few. But I've been longing for spring and the songbirds to return, and so I felt like a baltimore oriole would brighten my spirits with it's distinctive markings and blaze orange chest. The orange forms a natural flame pattern and in this tiny four inch square painting titled Baltimore Oriole No. 1 I felt like the crisp birch bark and snowy background would offset this colorful little bird as I patiently wait through the sub zero weather for spring ... did I mention I just love birds?

Please contact Sivertson Gallery in Grand Marais, MN for more information on this painting.
