North Shore Spring

North Shore Spring painting by duluth artist aaron kloss, painting of birch trees at a lake in spring, pointillism, spring painting, sivertson gallery painting

Spring can be such a short season here in the Northland, the season hasn't influenced much of my work primarily due to weather. It's spring here now and it's raining with a high of 38 degrees today and high winds. Not exactly the kind of weather that makes you want to go outside and play. But late spring color can be very bright later in the season as the trees leaf out in bright greens before getting their rich green summer coloring. Today's painting, titled North Shore Spring, is 18"w x 18"h and is a reflection of the colors of the season of spring, and this piece was recently delivered to Sivertson Gallery in Grand Marais MN ... stay warm!

Cranberry Forest Triptych

Cranberry Forest Triptych painting by artist aaron kloss, triptycn, pointillism, painting of birch trees in fall with red, duluth artist, z place gallery art
Cranberry Forest Triptych
Today's painting is titled Cranberry Forest Triptych and measures a total of 24"w x 10"h. This new piece is available at Z Place Gallery in Ironwood, MI and is part of a group of colorful new landscapes recently added to the gallery. The reds and blues are a playful complement to eachother, setting off the crisp birch trees while drawing the eye laterally across the three canvases. I had painted a similar piece several years ago and was happy to revisit the theme once again. A busy week awaits me as I finish off a couple of commissions for new clients and begin the process of setting up a new gallery space in Duluth .. so exciting! More news on that soon ... all my best, Aaron

Can You See The Cardinals?

can you see the cardinals painting by artist aaron kloss, cardinals painting, red maples painting, sivertson gallery, pointillism
"Can You See The Cardinals?" 8x10, acrylic on canvas
Some noisy and extremely messy finches inspired this piece. You see, I've had a good 40 finches raiding my thistle feeder lately, to the point where I went and bought a big old bag of thistle, and an extra couple feeders to keep up with the finch feast, and to enjoy watching the birds chasing each other off the 20 plus perches. Just as soon as they arrived, they left ... migrating to their nesting grounds no doubt, and there's no way I could have afforded to feed them. But one thing I noticed is that the finches could sit in the brush and be hard to find .. even 40 of them. The way birds can blend into their surroundings always fascinates me ... and so I was inspired to paint some cardinals on red maples. Sometimes I imagine what it would be like to look out my window at fall colors year round, but I can always paint the colors of the season ... and in this case, crimson red is splashed across the canvas and the cardinals dare you to find them ... but they would probably give themselves away with their chirping. :) This piece is being delivered to Sivertson Gallery later this week.

Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore orioles painting by artist aaron kloss, painting of birds, birch tree painting, pointillism
"Baltimore Orioles"  24"w x 12"h
Wow, it's been a busy spring and I've realized I haven't been posting as much as I'd like to! This piece is titled 'Baltimore Orioles' and is 24"w x 12"h, recently brought in to Lizzards Gallery in Duluth, MN. Bright orange birds on crisp white birch with a rich windsor blue sky to complement the orange orioles really make this piece pop.
